Electrical Car Charging

Charge points vary as to how quickly they can charge an electric vehicle and, if you have space, the cheapest and most convenient way is to install a dedicated chargepoint.

If you are considering a charge point, then charging at home is the convenient and cost-effective way that you can recharge your electric vehicle (EV).

There are currently government grants available to assist the purchase and installation of an electric vehicle charge point, and we can offer a fully installed charge point for a fixed price from several manufacturers.

We supply most home chargers in 3kw and 7kw and would generally be a 3kw for a hybrid electric vehicle and a 7kw for a fully electric vehicle with the 7kw being slightly more expensive. These units are most commonly wall mounted but other options are available and can be provided on request.

We are finding now that there is an increasing number of companies installing electric vehicle charge points in the workplace for use by employees and visitors. These work in the same way as home-based charging points and helps employees as the vehicle would generally be stationary for most of the day when it can be conveniently charged. We are finding that having electric vehicle charge points installed at a workplace can also attract customers visiting your site whether it a commercial or retail site.

As with home-based chargers, companies can also benefit from grants from the government to help fund electric vehicle charge point systems whatever your demands maybe and we can design tailor made solutions for your business providing fixed cost supply and installation at your premises. Company owners can decide whether to provide free charging or apply a fee to charging and also a mixture of both with the use of charge cards at a set rate of choice applied to maybe provide free charging to employees and a fee to visitors.

Workplace chargers can generally be a higher kw rating than home chargers as supplies can vary and may be able to provide more power to provide faster charging from units generally from 7kw to 22kw with prices more expensive on the higher power outputs.

With any of our car charging installations these can be incorporated into Solar PV installations to provide free energy from the sun to charge your vehicles and also installed alongside the Solar PV a battery storage unit installed to harness any unused electricity from the Solar PV system for later use. Information on any of these additional systems can be provided upon request.

How does it work?

Any electric car that uses batteries needs a charging system to recharge the batteries. The charging system has two goals: To pump electricity into the batteries as quickly as the batteries will allow. To monitor the batteries and avoid damaging them during the charging process.

In terms of convenience, charging each night at home is simplest. This will likely provide most of the daily driving range the average driver will need – and mean they effectively start each day with ‘a full tank’.

Most electric cars can be charged at home using a standard three-pin domestic plug socket. A new EV will be supplied with a standard EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) charging cable, allowing you to charge anywhere you can find a mains socket.

While the EVSE cable will keep you and your electric car safe when charging, we would recommend the installation of a dedicated EV charging wallbox, which should be fitted by a trained electrician.
